Granite Island is surrounded by Encounter Marine Park whose temperate waters are alive with marine life, some found only in Australia. Bottlenose Dolphins, fur seals and sea-lions, many seabirds, including little penguins, and iconic fish species, like leafy sea-dragons are part of the marine park ecosystem.

In addition, from May to September southern right whales arrive from Antarctica to raise their calves. Join our local Volunteer Rangers for a leisurely walk around Granite Island Recreation Park. You will hear stories about the Island and the amazing animals who call this part of the world home. Also, find out about local conservation efforts and citizen science programs aimed at supporting a healthy marine ecosystem.

Who is this event for?

This activity is for everyone. Children must be supervised at all times.

Accessibility:

This guided tour includes walking the 2.9km Kaiki Walk. This trail includes a section of stairs, moderate inclines and trail surface that are unsealed and uneven in parts. The walk will start on Granite Island, which requires participants to walk across the causeway (1.3km return). This walk is not suitable for people with limited mobility. Granite Island is exposed to coastal breezes and is recommended that you dress warmly.
