Rauora wananga at Rautahi marae
Rautahi marae, 14 November, 9am-4pm.
(8:50am start for 9am pōwhiri)
Hosted by Kei te pai press and Other Cinemas.
Emerging in part from Te Kīngitanga Kuini Nga wai hono i te po’s 2026 Koroneihana address where she urged Māori to move from the legacy of raupatu to rauora; this wananga examines what rauora means in places where prosperity and pollution co-existed. It is informed in part by the work of S.W.A.P (Sawmill Workers Against Poisons), the research of Kauae Raro and the findings towards constitutional reform within the Makite Mai Aotearoa working group. Our special guests are Other Cinemas, a filmmaking collective based in London, who will present two films, one which explores the ongoing ecological crisis of nuclear poisoning in a community in Algeria and Māori filmmaker Barry Barclay’s film exploring seed sovereignty over five years in a number of countries. This will be a relaxed, creative and gentle wananga for the benefit of the community.
Premised on trying to imagine the kind of world we want our mokopuna to live in, its intention is to gather people together to have haututu with some whenua, eat, think on constitutional reform and try to envision what rauora could actually look like in communities like Kawerau.
