Event description

RE-CONNECTION

A special collaboration weekend of dance with Michelle Mahrer and Caitlin Wood. November 26 & 27

As we slowly emerge back into life we felt this would be a great opportunity to try something new and collaborate to offer a full weekend of dance exploring the theme of RE-CONNECTION with ourselves, others and our world. This workshop will offer an opportunity to slow down and bring awareness to HOW we connect with ourselves, each other and our world. In this two day workshop using the 5Rhythms & Open Floor movement maps combined with dance movement therapy and somatic processes we will slow down and explore these terrains of relationship with self, other and community. We will bring new awareness into unconscious and old habitual patterns to discover new ways of relating with ourselves and others that is more alive, compassionate and creates opportunities for deeper intimacy and connection. These are times of great possibility where learning and practicing new ways of being with ourselves and each other is invaluable. We are coming together to build new pathways of connection, collaboration and mutual support.
In this workshop we will sometimes invite connection through touch. However this will always be optional and no physical contact will be required.

COVID regulations

As you may know it is mandatory that all attendees have been double vaccinated or hold a medical exemption, and as required by the venue we will need to see a copy of the vaccination or medical exemption certificate.  Masks will be required while entering and exiting the venue but not while dancing. All attendees must check in with the QR codes provided at the venue, or by using the online link to the Service NSW app.  While these regulations are concerning for us, we also feel it is important to keep dancing. We look forward to when we can all dance together again. We are looking into offering this workshop also ONLINE as a LIVE STREAM so everyone can join. Please contact us if this is of interest to you.

Please do not attend if you have cold symptoms or have been in any Covid hotspots.

With love,

Michelle & Caitlin

The practices:

Dancing Freedom

Dancing Freedom is a global mindfulness movement supporting liberation, community and leadership through the sacred medicine of dance. Dancing Freedom blends free-form, conscious dance and the essence of medicine ceremony, taking you on an elemental dance wave through Earth, Water, Fire, Air & Ether.

5Rhythms

5Rhythms dance is a dynamic movement meditation practice that ignites creativity, connection and community. Rather than having steps to follow, you are invited to follow your own creative expression guided by a journey through 'Wave' of movement aligned with how all energy moves in nature - through a cycle of rhythms, beginning with flow, moving into staccato (activation), then chaos (surrender & letting go), then lyrical (trances and unity) and finally arriving into stillness (Being, oneness). The practise is very simple yet it deeply connects us to our joy and freedom.

Open Floor

Open Floor is a resource based movement practice. We explore new ways of moving and responding to what is happening with intention and purpose. We learn to understand our habits and patterns for deeper insight and self awareness. The more we embody different responses in our movements, the more resources we can call on to move through life with flexibility, resilience and ease.
