Re-meeting the Onkaparinga River Recreation Park

Join our park rangers as we invite renowned artist Rebecca McEwan to share her reflections about the river during her artist in residency at Sauerbier House. This will be an immersive walk as we create art with Rebecca and listen and share in the river’s gifts.

Rebecca, who has exhibited widely and is the previous winner of the Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize, sees the Onkaparinga River as a living entity rather than simply a geographical feature. She has knitted, netted, knotted and traced the slow small moments when one comes to know the river, like another person, respecting signals when (or if) one wants to interact and on what terms. How do we meet another body, a watery other-than-human force, with their own ways and wills?

We will walk from the car park for about 4km depending on the day. There will be plenty of time to sit and participate or just listen. All art materials are supplied.

Accessibility

There is disabled parking and toilet at Perry’s Bend. The trail surface is generally flat but is not sealed. This event is more suited to adults and older children. 

Please Bring

-          Small mat or chair to sit on
-          Appropriate clothing for walking
-          Drinking water (and snacks if you need them)
-          Any other personal item such as medication

Note: Please let us know if you are unable to attend at least 24 hrs prior to the event so we can offer the ticket to someone else. This respects the artist’s time and also maximises the amount of people who can enjoy it.
