    Event description

Join us for an evening of literary celebration with our monthly series, featuring engaging and intimate conversations with acclaimed authors about their latest works, creative processes, and inspirations. This month, we are thrilled to host the remarkable Jim Moginie.

Jim Moginie, a renowned guitarist and songwriter and member of the iconic Australian band Midnight Oil, will delve into his new book, The Silver River. Known for his extensive musical career, from Midnight Oil's global rise to his diverse creative ventures with bands like Shameless Seamus & the Tullamore Dews, The Break, and collaborations with artists like Silverchair and Neil Finn, Jim's journey is as dynamic as his music.

In The Silver River, Jim intertwines his personal quest to find his birth family with the exhilarating story of Midnight Oil’s rise. This memoir offers a rich tapestry of his experiences—from the punk scene in Sydney to international tours, and his reflective travels across Ireland and beyond. It’s a moving narrative filled with behind-the-scenes tales of band life, creative insights, and a heartfelt exploration of family and identity.

Our conversation will be led by Michaela Kalowski, our host and seasoned interviewer and curator with a stellar track record of engaging discussions with literary and musical luminaries including Margaret Atwood, David Mitchell, and Holly Ringland. Michaela’s expertise promises a thought-provoking and relaxed dialogue with Jim Moginie.

Hosted at Petersham Bowling Club, this event is a celebration of literature, music, and community. We acknowledge and pay our respects to the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the traditional custodians of the land on which we gather. Join us for an unforgettable evening of stories!
