Ready to Vote?

The election is coming up. Are you ready to vote?

Whether you're voting for the first time, haven't voted in a while, not sure if you are eligible to vote or simply want a better understanding of how New Zealand's voting system works, this free session is for you.

Delivered by the Electoral Commission, this practical 45-minute presentation will cover the essentials, including:

• How MMP works

• The difference between your electorate vote and party vote

• Who can vote

• How to enrol to vote

• How to update your details

• What to expect on election day

• How and where to vote

• Key dates and information

• Employment opportunities - working at the general election

After the presentation, there will be time to ask questions in a relaxed, judgement-free environment. You can also check your enrolment, update your details, or enrol to vote with assistance from Electoral Commission staff.

Stay for a complimentary tea or coffee and take the opportunity to get election-ready.

Everyone is welcome. No prior knowledge is needed, and no question is too basic. 

Please note that the information provided will be politically neutral. Electoral Commission staff will be unable to answer any questions about political parties, candidates, policies or who to vote for.

Note: The same session will be held from 5.30 - 6.30pm. If that times suits you better get tickets for that session here. Electoral Commission staff will also be available between 1.30pm - 5.30pm in the Library. Just pop in during this time if you have questions or want to check you're registered to vote.
