    We are delighted that the International Confederation of Architectural Museums (ICAM) International President, Rebecca Bailey will be in Adelaide and will present a public lecture on Architectural Museums on the evening of Thursday 16 November 2023. 

    ICAM provides a forum for those active in architecture museums, centres and collections, and provides members with the opportunity to foster links between all those interested in promoting the better understanding of architecture.

    Rebecca M Bailey is Programme Director of the £19m UK research funding programme Towards a National Collection. She is assigned to the programme by Historic Environment Scotland, where she has worked since 2004, most recently as Head of Exhibitions and Outreach. In addition to leading on publishing, research funding and a PhD programme, she initiated a series of touring exhibitions in museums and historic properties throughout Scotland, as well as curating two substantial exhibitions in China. She started her career working with architectural collections and is currently President of the International Confederation of Architectural Museums, and an Advisory Council member of the International Council of Museums.

    Presentation Title: From Georgio Vasari to M+: a global tour of architectural collections and their missions to “purify taste, ignite imagination… and awake genius.”

    Abstract: Highlighting the history, evolution and impact of architectural museums and archives, this presentation will take you from their origins in Renaissance collecting, through a European and North American blossoming, to the present-day representations around the world in university collections, specialist museums, and in partnership with other disciplines. It will also explore the critical role of the International Confederation of Architectural Museums in consolidating, supporting, and inspiring this global community of institutions.
