Description

Join Circular Economy Living Lab, AdaptNSW and Regen Labs for an interactive workshop exploring what makes the Hunter Region resilient, connected and future-ready.

This workshop is open to professionals, businesses, researchers, local government, community leaders wanting to help shape the future of the Hunter Region.

The Hunter is entering a period of significant change. Building a resilient future will require more than individual projects or organisations working alone.

It will require connected people, shared direction, strong local leadership and practical action.

Join us for an interactive workshop to explore what makes the Hunter Region resilient today and what the focus and ingredients are needed to continue and build on the thriving, connected and future-ready region over the next 10 years.

Together we will:

• Identify the values of individuals and businesses in the Hunter Region, building on our current strengths, value chain and assets that already exist across the region
• Explore current business activity, opportunities, circular economy initiatives and current trends of the Hunter
• Development of a vision for what a resilient Hunter Region could look like in 10 years in the future.
• Identify existing efforts, needed critical skills, networks, infrastructure and support needed to achieve that vision
• Connect with others who share similar interests, goals and vision for their own business and the Hunter
• Form action oriented micro-communities that will continue collaborating beyond the workshop, supported by Circular Economy Living Lab and other collaborative partners with micro-community check ins.

Like a recipe, participants will contribute their unique perspectives, experiences and expertise to help identify the ingredients needed for a resilient future.

Expect engaging conversations, creative thinking, practical collaboration and the opportunity to connect with people who want to move from discussion to action.

Tea, coffee and light refreshments provided.

Leave with knowing more about the values and capability of the Hunter Region, co-design a collective vision for the Hunter and belong to a Hunter Region micro community where the action continues after the event concludes!

Themes that could arise from the workshop and be translated into micro communities on the day could include:

  • Resilient localised food and agriculture value chain

  • Resilient localised water management

  • Resilient localised energy and fuel

  • Resilient localised resource, asset and waste management

  • Resilient labour force

  • Resilient localised economy

  • Resilient biodiversity

  • Resilient education

  • Resilient housing and infrastructure

Unlike many workshops that end when participants leave the room, this event is designed to identify aligned people and support the formation of ongoing micro-communities that can continue creating positive change and action across the Hunter Region.

This workshop is hosted by the Circular Economy Living Lab and supported by AdaptNSW and Regen Labs.

    • Researchers and educators

    • Local government and agencies

    • Community organisations and leaders

    • Emerging changemakers

  • Why is the workshop called “Recipe for a Resilient Hunter Region”?

A resilient Hunter Region is not created by one organisation, sector or community group. It is created by many different people contributing different ingredients at different times.

This workshop uses the idea of a recipe to explore the ingredients needed for a thriving and future-ready region, including people, materials, skills, values, leadership, partnerships, creativity, infrastructure, local knowledge and action.

Just as every ingredient contributes something unique to a recipe, every participant brings valuable perspectives, experiences and capabilities. The workshop is designed to identify these strengths, understand what is missing and connect people around a shared vision for the future.

By bringing together motivated leaders and emerging changemakers from diverse sectors, we aim to create new connections, strengthen regional leadership and establish action oriented micro-communities capable of tackling challenges and creating opportunities together.

The goal is not simply to imagine a resilient Hunter Region, but to form what the Hunter is currently doing to create resilience as its foundation and continue building from it.

  • Why attend?

The Hunter Region is experiencing significant environmental, economic, social and industry transition.

While there are already many passionate individuals, organisations and initiatives doing valuable work, these efforts are often disconnected, siloed or lacking opportunities for collaboration and collective momentum.

Creating a resilient future requires more than individual projects it requires connected people, shared direction, diverse leadership and ongoing collaboration across sectors and communities.

We need spaces (infrastructure and virtual) that help:

    • Connect aligned people and ideas

    • Identify shared values and regional priorities

    • Build stronger local networks and leadership capacity

    • Encourage cross-sector collaboration and innovation

    • Support Hunter Region community-led action and resilience

    • Create practical pathways for long-term positive change

    • Identify areas where support is required and how it should be delivered.

  • What will we actually do during the workshop?

    The Workshop

Using the idea of a “recipe”, the workshop will explore the ingredients needed for a resilient Hunter Region including people, organisations, values, skills, creativity, partnerships and action.

  • Do I need experience in sustainability or resilience planning?

    No prior experience is required.

The workshop is designed to be collaborative, accessible and welcoming to people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, which is required for a resilient Hunter Region.

  • What are “micro-communities”? and how will micro communities be supported?

Participants will be encouraged to identify simple next steps, nominate champions and continue conversations beyond the workshop.

Where there is sufficient interest, ongoing support and communication channels including follow-up gatherings may be established to help maintain momentum and support collective action by Circular Economy Living Lab and partners.
