Inspired by Ross Irons’ article, Recipes for Resistance, which reflects on how culture, food,

and education can become tools for community strength during difficult times.

What the Evening Will Be
This is a hands-on workshop where participants will learn how to prepare traditional Mexican

salsas picantes with the reknown mexican chef Alam Mendez and the team from Apapacho Taqueria.

The night is designed to be interactive, educational, and community-centered.

Guests will:

- Learn techniques for preparing different styles of salsa

- Discuss the cultural significance of food in times of social tension

- Connect with other community members who believe in supporting local art

- Be featured in The Lady Bird of Saint John program as a supporting donors

- Enjoy specially crafted mezcal cocktails during your visit.

All proceeds from the evening will support our upcoming production.

Why We Are Doing This?

Our next show, The Ladybird of Saint John (La Pájara de San Juan), is a bilingual play about

two sisters navigating immigration status, class differences, and family responsibility during a

period of intensified immigration enforcement in the United States.

The themes of this production are serious and sensitive. Because of the subject matter, we

cannot always rely on traditional public funding sources. Stories about undocumented life,

immigration enforcement, and mixed-status families are often considered controversial or

high-risk. That is why community support is essential.

We are asking our friends, colleagues, and neighbors to help fund this work directly. When

institutions hesitate, community backing becomes the difference between a story being

staged or remaining unheard.
