Reclaiming Our Power: essential skills for weaving change for the common good
Description
Most of us can see what is ending. The harder question is how we start something.
Governments are unlikely to build alternatives for us. Capitalism is not going to pay for it. What we have is each other and our ability to organise.
Over the last few decades we have been put into the role of consumer and sorted into online bubbles. Somewhere along the way, the everyday skill of sitting in a room with other people and working things out together was diminished.
This is a day about rebuilding those skills back.
Reclaiming Our Power is a one-day workshop for people who are already doing something, or are close to starting. You might be part of a community energy group, a food co-op, a Landcare group, a neighbourhood house, a CSA, a housing project, or an idea that has not left your kitchen table yet. You have the will. What you want is the craft of bringing people with you.
We will work across three levels.
- Yourself. What you love, what you are good at, and what you are actually here to do.
- The group. How a group forms, decides, holds trust, and keeps going. This is the first commons. Everything else depends on it.
- The wider ecosystem. How your group finds other groups, and how change starts to add up.
The day is practical and participatory. You will do the activities, not watch slides about them. Every exercise is one you can take home and run with your own people the following week.
