Dandjoo Wangkiny (Together Talking) about Reconciliation in Stirling: Community Workshop
Event description
Help the City of Stirling to develop our next Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the broader community, for the benefit of all Australians.
Our most recent RAP (2021-2023) concluded at the end of June 2023, and we want to hear from community members as we continue our reconciliation journey.
Join us at a community workshop facilitated by Preston Culbong and with graphic artworks capturing the conversation by artist Rhys Paddick (learn more about Preston and Rhys below). At this workshop you will help us to:
- define priority reconciliation actions for the City
- tell us what is important and what we can be doing better
- tell us about any great examples you have seen elsewhere.
Spaces are limited and registrations are essential.
Please contact kaya@stirling.wa.gov.au with any queries. To learn more, visit www.stirling.wa.gov.au/TogetherTalking.
About the facilitator:
Preston Culbong is a Nyoongar Yamatji man with community and tertiary level experience in Youth Work, Research, Human Rights and Social Justice. This informs his work as a Cultural Literacy Consultant. He is currently working with Water Corp and assisting the City of Stirling with their next Reconciliation Action Plan. In addition, he is a writer, consultant and facilitator of professional learning for Aboriginal Education Solutions.
About the artist:
Kaya dardycings, I'm Rhys - I teach things and I draw things, I live and work from the kwopidok Wudjuk Noongar Boodjar (Perth) Western Australia.
I've always been fascinated in Aussie culture, in fact, it's my favourite culture to be a part of. I am a modern custodian, bringing together modern and traditional cultures in a shared space of appreciation is my passion as an artist and my duty as an Australian. Drawing is also fun, and fun is so underrated in our modern processed culture - so I thought I'd include having fun in my services as a business owner, and thus here we are! I don't do paints and canvases and hand prints, I do ipad's, Procreate (the app I use to draw) and stupidly expensive Apple pens. You can find more of my (fun) art stuff on my Instagram @the_wholesome_yamatji, and as for the stuff I teach, find me on rhyspaddick.com
