Reconciliation Week Landfill Tour

As part of National Reconciliation Week 2026, we’re inviting you to join us for a guided landfill tour that explores what happens to our waste once it leaves our homes, and how caring for country is a responsibility we all share.
This year’s theme, “All in for Reconciliation,” is a call for everyone to play a part in building respectful relationships and a shared future. On this tour, we’ll reflect on how waste management, environmental stewardship and respect for Country are connected.
On the tour, you’ll:
Learn how the landfill operates and what happens to different types of waste
Gain insights into the Great Western Drain, a fantastic local example of restoration work in action
Enjoy, weather permitting, a guided walk through the wetland area, learning why wetlands are such a valuable environmental asset
Date: Tuesday 2 June 2026
Time: 1:30pm - 2:30pm
Location: Ballarat Regional Landfill, 1380 Glenelg Highway, Smythesdale, VIC, 3351
What to bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, sturdy closed toe shoes and a water bottle
Transport: Please make your own way to the landfill, carpooling encouraged.
