Event description

Recovery Basics is an interactive four-hour workshop designed to equip those living and/or working in a recovery environment with the knowledge and skills to support individuals and communities through the challenges of disaster recovery.

Throughout the four-hour session, participants will explore three key modules aligned with the Recovery Basics book series:

The Impacts of Disasters on Individuals and Communities – Understanding the psychological, social, and economic effects of disasters, how different groups experience recovery, and the importance of trauma-informed approaches.

Working in a Recovery Environment – Exploring the realities of recovery work, including community-led approaches, effective coordination, and the challenges of long-term recovery efforts.

Looking After Yourself During and After a Disaster – Recognizing stress and burnout, managing emotional fatigue, and developing sustainable self-care strategies to support ongoing resilience.

This inclusive workshop provides practical tools to strengthen recovery efforts while ensuring responders and community leaders can sustain their work effectively. By enhancing the well-being of those on the frontlines, we can foster stronger, more resilient communities.
