Recruitment Review - Staff Yarn Draper Street
Event description
Let’s work together to create culturally safe workplaces that foster diversity and support the professional growth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.
Following a RoundTable meeting in June 2023, a review and Health Service Investigation were commissioned into matters relating to the administration, management and delivery of public sector health services provided by TCHHS to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. A commitment from the RoundTable included the establishment of a Working Group to deliver a report providing recommendations to ensure the recruitment approach and processes at the TCHHS, align to best practice and improve and sustain employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
The report delivered 35 recommendations covering ten focus areas: vacancy management, advertising, application process, selection, onboarding and induction, policy, graduates, accommodation and housing, engagement with community and capability development.
A project manager has been appointed to oversee and guide work to implement these recommendations. The project approach is:
- Listen to our staff and explore what is working and what isn’t
- Review and update our actions and build capability across the workforce – though the provision of training, resources and tools (whatever is needed to support the workforce)
- Be guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities acknowledging they have the information and solutions needed to shape their health futures.
I appreciate any insights you are comfortable to share.
