About Special Guest, Matt Cohen!

Winner of Red Bull Basement University Australia and Co-Founder of WhyHive, Matt is an innovator and social entrepreneur passionate about harnessing the power of data. As the Co-Founder of WhyHive, a data science social enterprise, Matt helps organisations leverage data science and innovation consulting to extract value from data, make informed decisions, and maximise their impact.

Matt developed the concept for an app that connects university students with events on campus. This innovation earned him the opportunity to fly to Berlin and participate in a global gathering of university innovators. There, Matt collaborated with expert marketers, entrepreneurs, and makers to dive deep into the startup process, further solidifying their expertise in entrepreneurship and innovation.

What kind of idea and projects can apply to Red Bull Basement?
Every idea is welcome – you can offer a solution for a pressing, unmet need affecting life in the community or on a larger scale. Technology and Artificial Intelligence may be the whole solution, or one part of it. Topics are limited only by your imagination, but to get started, think of: AI, ESG (environmental, social and governance) Innovation, Extended Realities or Robotics and Automation.

When and how do I apply?
The application window is open from August 1st to October 30th 2024. You can enter as many times as you'd like! We will take you through the application process through the workshop.

Can I work in a team?
A team’s application can be submitted as an individual or as a group of two participants. More team members can collaborate behind the scenes, but only up to two representatives can introduce and pitch the idea if the team is selected for the World Final.
