American Red Cross First Aid / CPR Training & Certification

First Aid / CPR / AED class helps attendees recognize and respond to cardiac and breathing and first aid emergencies. This class provides the knowledge and skills to provide immediate care and decide if advanced medical care is required.
This course is available for in-person training or online/classroom hybrid training, as well as training in English or in Spanish.
Certification: 2-Year Certification Issued After Successful Course Completion
Cost: $85 for adult and pediatric CPR training
+$14 First Aid(you will have this option when you select your ticket type)
Course Overview
In order to complete the course, students must be in attendance from start to finish and demonstrate the ability to perform lifesaving techniques during in a simulated environment. There is no mandatory written test, but one can be provided for clients who request one (if given, the written test must be passed with a score of 80% or better on all components of the multiple-choice test). Course completion provides a certification card good for 2 years.
Topics Covered In This Class
- Foundations – The preparation steps for responding to emergencies. Topics will include assessing situations and potential patients, how and when to call for emergency services, and how to get ready to act.
- Adult CPR and AED – Students will learn how to recognize and respond to symptoms of a heart attack, how to differentiate heart attack from cardiac arrest, and practice performing CPR with chest compressions and rescue breaths to sustain life in a patient that has suffered a cardiac arrest, as well as the basic steps of using an automated external defibrillator.
- Pediatric CPR and AED - Following up on the previous lesson, students will learn how to adapt CPR and AED skills for prepubescent children, and infants under one year old.
- Choking – This lesson will cover one of the most common life-threatening emergencies that lay responders can encounter; both how to recognize when someone is choking and how to perform back blows and abdominal thrusts to dislodge an object.
- Sudden Illnesses – In this section, first aid for a wide variety of illness-related topics will be covered, including severe allergic reactions, diabetic emergencies, and strokes.
- Life-Threatening Bleeding – Students will experience additional lessons on first aid dealing with bleeding and bandaging wounds severe wounds, with direct pressure bandages as well as various types of tourniquets.
- Injuries and Environmental Emergencies – The final first aid module will cover how to respond to illness and injuries caused by heat and cold, as well as poisoning, in addition to discussion of burns, and what to do for potential head or spinal injuries, including concussions.
Location & Parking
Class is given at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Parking can be found in the lot behind the church, on Westview Drive. After parking, follow the sidewalk closest to Westview and take the first right before courtyard to take you straight to the training room.
Lunch & Breaks
Lunch is not provided; food and drink is allowed in class as long as it is cleaned and student safety can be maintained. 1-2 short 5-minute breaks are taken over the length of the class.
What To Wear
Please wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move about in. Please keep in mind some activities will involve getting on the floor.
Don't Be Late To Class
Class will begin promptly at the top of the hour and students cannot be admitted if they arrive more than 20 minutes late . Refunds cannot be issued for students who are absent or tardy to class. In the event a class is canceled, refunds will be issued or you may reschedule at no additional cost.
Cell-Phone Policy
We ask that you have your phones turned to silent for the duration of the class. You may return calls and messages during scheduled breaks. In the event of an emergency, please quietly excuse yourself from class.
