About Rabbit-Proof Fence 

Rabbit-Proof Fence is based on true events that occurred in 1931. The story revolves around three mixed-race girls who escape after being forcibly taken from their homes to be trained as domestic servants as part of an official Australian government policy. They embark on a treacherous 1500 mile journey across the outback to return to their families.
