Event description
2010 95 mins MA15+
Synopsis:
When a young police officer, Constable Shane Cooper (Kwanten), relocates to the small high-country town of 'Red Hill' with his pregnant wife (van der Bloom), he does so in the hope of starting a new family. But when news of a prison break in the city sends the local law enforcement officers into a panic, Shane's first day on duty quickly goes from bad to worse.
Notes:
Whilst this picture is set deeply in the Australian bush it owes a great deal to the classical form of the American Western and as such has a an edgy, layered feel for local audiences. Even its title rings with John Ford foreboding. Fantastic performances in a raw and very real setting give this film emotional power rarely seen in local productions. A very unusual and rarely seen movie from a very unusual young Australian director,
Reviews:
"The movie is extremely well staged and the young hero's dramatic lineage is established by his resonant name " - The Guardian
"The film just about transcends its abundant clichs. It's Coen Brothers lite but made with some panache." - London Evening Standard
