Join us to celebrate the launch of Red Ochre Theology, a new book from Aunty Professor Anne Pattel-Gray, a scholar who has spent the past two decades decolonising biblical narratives and constructing a theology that draws on Australia's First Nations creation stories, customs, ceremonies, rituals, and philosophy.

Prof. Anne Pattel-Gray
Prof. Dr. Anne Pattel-Gray is a scholar, theologian, activist, and writer widely recognised as a leading expert on Black and First Nations theology. In 1995 she became the first Aboriginal person awarded a PhD at the University of Sydney — published as The Great White Flood: Racism in Australia. She has held Visiting Professorships at Harvard University, Gurukul Theological Seminary, and Otago University, and in 2022 was appointed Professor of Indigenous Studies and inaugural Head of the School of Indigenous Studies at the University of Divinity. Through research, education, and decades of advocacy — including significant work with the World Council of Churches — she has been a critical voice for justice and equity for Indigenous peoples. Anne is a Fellow of The Wesley Centre.
Prof. Peter Sherlock
Executive Director, Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture and Yindyamarra Nguluway, Charles Sturt University. Peter Sherlock is a theologian and historian who was born and raised on Wurundjeri Woiwurrung Country in Naarm (Melbourne) where he still lives. His work focusses on how reimagining our stories - personal, familial, communal, national - might give all people the chance to experience love of God and love of neighbour, to shape a world worth living in.
Rev. Dr Garry Worete Deverell
A trawloolway theologian from northern trouwerner/Tasmania and an Anglican priest. His books include Gondwana Theology: a trawloolway man reflects on Christian faith (ATF) and Contemplating Country: more Gondwana theology (Wipf & Stock).
Assoc. Prof. Robyn Whitaker, Moderator
Director of the Wesley Centre, an ordained Uniting Church minister and Associate Professor of New Testament at Pilgrim Theological College, University of Divinity, holds a PhD from the University of Chicago Divinity School. Her research focuses on Revelation, the Gospels, gender and the use of Scripture in public discourse. Recognised as one of Australia’s leading thinkers by The Conversation, she is the author of several books including Even the Devil Quotes Scripture and Revelation for Normal People.
