Redención / The Boy Who Wanted to be a Robot
Event description
Thompson Street Opera Company's fall double bill tells two stories of self-actualization and reclaiming identity. REDENCIÓN follows the written correspondence between a man in prison for murder and an anonymous penpal, who eventually reveals herself as the mother of the woman he killed. Their mutual vulnerability with each other presents a unique opportunity for answers, redemption, and peace. This work will be sung in Spanish with projected English supertitles. THE BOY WHO WANTED TO BE A ROBOT takes place in a future when humans can no longer procreate. In a last-ditch effort, robots create a boy named Orgo to continue the human race. However, the boy wants to be a robot, like his friends. The robot king brings in a woman named Sally to teach the boy to be human, but Orgo resists. Where can he find his place when he fits in neither human nor robot society?
