Description

Reef Grief Climate Café

Holding space for the love of Sea Country

As Australia’s reefs face unprecedented bleaching and ecological disruption, many of us are feeling deep sadness, worry, and uncertainty. Reef grief is a natural, human response to witnessing the places we love under threat. You are not alone.

The Reef Grief Climate Café offers a gentle, facilitated space to share what’s on your heart, connect with others who care for Sea Country, and honour both the beauty and the loss unfolding in our marine ecosystems. Through meaningful conversation, deep listening, and community support, we can strengthen our emotional resilience and collective care.

Climate Cafés provide a unique space where people can freely express their thoughts and emotions about climate crises, biodiversity loss, and other environmental issues. The emphasis is on deep listening and self-reflection, fostering a sense of connection and support, and reducing isolation in our shared concerns about the climate crisis.

Powered by Psychology for a Safe Climate (PSC) in collaboration with Divers for Climate. We share these cafes in solidarity, to divers, small businesses, coastal communities and ocean lovers who are witnessing the changes unfolding beneath the surface and feeling the effects above. Everyone is welcome.

This national initiative will activate a series of Climate Cafés across reef-connected communities. Together, we will nurture connection, explore ways to cope, and strengthen community resilience.

Divers for Climate is a community-led initiative for divers, by divers, that aims to motivate climate action throughout the global dive community and beyond.

Psychology for a Safe Climate was founded in 2010. Our mission is to strengthen the emotional foundations of communities responding to the climate and nature crisis.

Divers For Climate - Summer Of Solidarity Campaign

Timed for the 2025–2026 summer, a season expected to bring another round of record-breaking marine heatwaves. For many in the dive community, this summer carries a sense of anxiety and uncertainty. Our reefs, coastal communities, and dive industries are on the frontlines of a rapidly changing climate.

Recent results of the nation’s first survey of divers’ experiences with climate change confirm what many of us have felt for years: 91 per cent of divers across Australia have directly observed climate impacts underwater, from coral bleaching to shifting species, more unpredictable weather and warming seas.

Divers For Climate unites divers, small businesses, and coastal communities who are all witnessing the changes unfolding beneath the surface - turning anxiety and grief into courage, connection, and action.
