Reflections: Fairfield AIDS Memorial Garden Celebration

Join us as we return to the AIDS Memorial Garden to reflect, remember and respect this special place which stands a testament to the community response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Opening speeches by Mayor, Edward Crossland Yarra City Council and Chief Executive of Melbourne Polytechnic, Frances Coppolillo and John Hall (Thorne Harbour Health.)
Hear reflections about the establishment of the garden and the HIV/AIDS epidemic from Judy Frecker (HIV Clinical Nurse consultant), David Menadue (Living Legend & Activist), and Susan Paxton (Positive Women Victoria).
Yarra Youth Services Artists in Residence Nicky Tsekouras, Zeth Cameron and Josh Van Eymeren will open a new artwork in the garden entitled, ‘Reflections of Queer Joy’.
At 7pm, join us for an author talk with teacher, researcher, and writer Geoff Allshorn who will speak about his latest book ‘Always Remember - 40 Years - 40 Objects and Images from the AIDS Epidemic, 1981-2021’.
Stay as the sun sets, for food and beverages and enjoy music from Melbourne Polytechnic music students.
Free on street parking available as well as on campus and in the student car park after 5pm.
