Event description

Join us for the first day of Allison Chhorn's exhibition, Reflections in the Water to hear her speak to the immersive installation that navigates memory, displacement, and landscape along the Mekong River.

Through recreated fragments of archival material, Chhorn transforms the gallery into a contemplative water sanctuary, evoking the Cambodian countryside as both a site of healing and destruction. Water, in this work, becomes a carrier of history, fluid, unstable, and reflective.

A Cambodian-Australian filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist working on Kaurna Land, Chhorn is known for her impressionistic moving-image works including The Plastic House (2019) and Skin Shade Night Day (2022). Her practice explores post-memory and the emotional aftershocks of migrant displacement through film and installation.

With Reflections in the Water, Chhorn offers a quiet, affecting space to consider what is remembered, what is inherited, and what continues to flow.

The conversation will be followed by a Q&A.
