Reframing Professional Boundaries

Event description

Reframing allied health roles.

Join Professor Susan Nancarrow to explore the practical facilitators of and barriers to task reallocation between health professional roles, and between health professional roles and the delegated workforce.

Every health profession is currently grappling with shortages. Compounded by a complex health care system and a unique context of global circumstances, there is an imperative to look at solving existing workforce shortages with new and different solutions.

This workshop will explore the individual and structural factors that unconsciously limit workforce capacity. By understanding these constraints, we can uncover opportunities and drivers for change. The session will also encourage blue-sky thinking, aiming to harness the full potential of the allied health workforce to better meet patient needs.

Overview and Context:

In today's rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, several challenges persist:

  • Global health workforce shortages
  • Population changes
  • Technological innovations

Despite these changes, healthcare systems are still primarily structured around outdated models and hierarchies dating back to the 1920s. Moreover, healthcare focuses predominantly on an illness model, rather than prevention and restoration. Roles within healthcare are often dictated by historical structures and hierarchies rather than individual competence.

Why Reframe Professional Boundaries?

  • Effectively utilise existing workforce and skills to meet patient needs
  • Prepare the workforce for sustainability and future challenges
  • Recognise the skills and expertise of allied health professionals
  • Create new career pathways for existing workers

Workshop Structure:

In this hands-on 4-hour workshop, you will:

  • Discover - Explore the individual, organisational and system level drivers that define allied health professional identities
  • Dream - Envision the possibilities for a future that incorporates better use of allied health skills and roles
  • Design – Understand the levers for change to develop strategies to turn your vision into reality
  • Destiny – Build a strategy to move forward and drive changes

 What to Expect:

In addition to the 4-hour in-person workshop, you will receive six months of access to an interactive online learning community and a repository of key resources to support your continued learning and growth. You will leave the session with an outline strategy which can be further developed and refined with peer support within the learning community.

Join us for a transformative and applied workshop aimed at empowering you with the understanding and tools you need to redesign allied health professional roles. Learn to fully optimise your knowledge and skills and deliver patient care in the best possible manner.
