Event description

Share a meal during Refugee Week with Khatereh Rabieim, a passionate Iranian chef and refugee.

Khatereh, a mother of 2 teenagers and a qualified accountant arrived from Iran 10 years ago with no job references and little English but big hopes for the future.

Adjusting to life as a refugee in Sydney was hard for Khaterah but food became her creative outlet as she worked to overcome language barriers and loneliness.

Khaterah was introduced to Erskineville-based asylum seeker and refugee social enterprise caterer Parliament on King not long after arriving in Sydney. Hear how her love for cooking helped her restore hope.

Khatereh will prepare addas polo, a Persian style rice dish with sultanas and fried onion for people to enjoy together.

Bookings are essential.

Refugee Week is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the contributions which refugees bring to Australia. It's also a time when all Australians are encouraged to educate themselves about the issues that affect refugees, as well as listen to the stories of those seeking asylum.

We aim to present inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs, please contact Juanita Nielsen Community Centre on 02 9265 9146 or jncc@cityofsysney.nsw.gov.au
