Refugee Week film screening: Scattered People at Manly Library

Enjoy a featured screening of Scattered People, an inspiring and thought-provoking documentary about the power of music and humanity when seeking asylum in an unwelcoming country.

The Scattered People are a band of kindred spirit musicians in Brisbane, Australia who play, write and record the music and stories of asylum seekers they encounter in detention and community centres, producing high quality albums. We follow their relationships, rehearsals and public performances and hear their heartfelt stories of courage and character as they create Sugarmill Road, their last album.

Refugee Week is Australia’s peak annual activity to promote greater awareness of refugees, the issues they face and the contributions refugees are making to the Australian community, and includes 20 June, World Refugee Day. Refugee Week is an occasion to celebrate the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution, and build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives.
