Regenerate and Reclaim Old Footscray Hospital Site: Community Driven Solutions

6 km from Melbourne CBD is a former quarry-turn-landfill, later purchased by the community and after much advocacy, built into the current Footscray Hospital.

With the hospital closing in 2025 a vast wasteland of carparks and old buildings will be left including the former psychiatric building (now heritage listed).

How can regeneration of this land help improved well-being and resilience and a more sustainable future for our community and the environment? What is the community vision?0

Reimagining Old Footscray Hospital Community Group is a resident / community group keen to ensure the community voice is heard in the planning for the site.

Join local residents, community planners and visionaries for a 'pop up' picnic in front of the former Footscray psychiatric hospital building at 160 Gordon Street to hear thoughts on sustainability, affordable housing, community activism and more and share your ideas for the potential regeneration of this site.

We strongly encourage all attendees to also directly provide their views on the site to the State Government and local council by 9 February 2024 via https://engage.vic.gov.au/foot...

The event will be held outdoors at the car park in front of the former psychiatric hospital building, located at 160 Gordon Street, Footscray.

BYO your own chair and settle in under the gum trees to hear from speakers from Reimagining Old Footscray Hospital Community Group, HousingAIM; Affordable, Inclusive Maribyrnong, Regen Melbourne and Westside Co-housing and share your ideas for the site.

Light morning tea refreshments will be provided. BYO tea/coffee/beverages.  Hats and water is recommended.

If you can't walk or ride to the event you may find 2 hour parking on Gordon Street or surrounding suburbs. You can also access paid parking to the back of the hospital off Eleanor Street.

Accessibility is considered reasonable, noting that it is a carpark with some uneven surfaces.
