Regeneration Confusion: Exploring what “regenerative” might mean for the built environment
Description
Interest in regenerative design is finally gaining traction, but how people understand it varies; and perhaps this is a good thing.
However, for some, the term can cause confusion - it overlaps with regeneration: local "improvements" that, in some cases, risk gentrification. For others, it's the next step beyond sustainability. Meanwhile, client demand for nature-positive outcomes and nature-based solutions is rising, leaving teams to deliver results without a shared understanding of shared values, process, or outcome.
TerraLupa invites built environment professionals to an interactive evening of shared inquiry and connection, hosted by Sedus in London.
Rather than prescribing a definition, this facilitated workshop brings diverse perspectives together to explore practical application across roles and scales. Regenerating places also asks us to regenerate how we work together, something often missed by guidelines and frameworks.
We'll ground the conversation in real projects, research, and case studies from TerraLupa Collective members:
Alessandra Pepe, architect: historical visual data analysis for inclusive development
Susanne Mueller, sociologist and community engagement specialist: nurturing stewardship through participatory process
Will Adeney, civil engineer: regenerative asset management across buildings and infrastructure
Kara de los Reyes, co-founder, host: a provocation inviting viewing design through a series of different lenses
Javier Gras, co-founder, host: closing with a summary of the work TerraLupa are focusing on and an invitation to collaborate
This event is made possible through our partnership with Sedus and Trilux who are actively exploring how regeneration and circularity can be implemented in their own design, manufacturing, operations, and project delivery.
Drinks and catering are included.
Please register so we know how many to cater for. In the spirit of reducing waste - of food, drink, time and energy - we ask you to book only if you plan to come and take part. If your plans change, please let us know or release your ticket so someone else can join.
Bring your questions, your projects and your doubts. We hope you’ll leave with ideas to carry into your own practice.
We're looking forward to seeing you there!
