Whether you manage a commercial livestock enterprise or a small rural property, this workshop will provide practical strategies to help you make informed grazing decisions and get the most from your land.

Drawing on years of industry experience, Judi Earl will cover the fundamentals of how grass grows, livestock grazing behaviour and the link between soil health, pasture performance and stocking decisions. Participants will gain a better understanding of grazing strategies, feed budgeting, carrying capacity and pasture monitoring, with a focus on realistic applications for the Hills and Fleurieu region.

Held on a property in Deep Creek which was burnt during bushfires earlier in the year, this workshop also gives participants an opportunity to observe how the pastures have bounced back, supported by regenerative agriculture principles in place prior to the natural disaster.

Topics include:

How grass grows and recovers after grazing
Soil health and its role in pasture productivity
Understanding grazer behaviour
Grazing strategies and recovery periods
Seasonal pasture growth and grazing decisions
Animal nutrition requirements
Stocking rates, stock density and carrying capacity
Multi-species pastures and species selection
Feed budgeting and drought preparedness
Pasture assessment, monitoring and management checklists

Ideal for graziers, mixed farmers, lifestyle landholders and anyone interested in improving land and pasture management through grazing.

This event is supported by the Australian Government through funding from the Climate-Smart Agriculture Program under the Natural Heritage Trust.
