Regional Stakeholder Forum 2022

This free annual event is an opportunity for staff and volunteers from museums across Western Sydney and regional New South Wales to network, share stories and be inspired by presentations on topics relevant to the regional collecting sector.

In 2022, presentations will focus on issues ranging from forward-thinking regional museum policy and practice to reflections on how museums deal with the consequences of natural disasters.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS (select only one when booking):

First Nations self-determination within collections

Powerhouse Head of Collections, First Nations, Nathan mudyi Sentance and a/Registration Manager Lucy Clark, will discuss how Powerhouse has developed a new deed of deposit process which allows First Nations communities to deposit cultural material to the museum for safekeeping while retaining all legal rights. Nathan and Lucy will detail the benefits of this process and practicalities of implementation from a collections’ registration perspective.

Clay Dynasty exhibition tour

Join Powerhouse Curator Eva Czernis-Ryl for a 30-minute tour of the exhibition Clay Dynasty. Featuring 400 objects by three generations of makers, from pioneer potters to contemporary ceramic artists, Clay Dynasty is the first survey of Australian studio ceramics from the 1960s to date.

Unpopular exhibition tour

Join Powerhouse Curator Damian McDonald for a 30-minute tour of the exhibition Unpopular. The exhibition draws on the archive of rock music promoter, record company founder and entrepreneur Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic, as well as the experiences of the artists and creative collaborators of the alternative music scene in the 1990s.

Carriers and content: A digitisation discussion

A presentation by Powerhouse Conservator, Variable Media Chris Redman focusing on the differences between audio visual carriers, content and handling challenges within a digitisation project. Accompanying this will be some tips and possible pathways on how a project like this could be achieved in smaller institutions.

Presented in partnership with Museums & Galleries of New South Wales and Regional Arts NSW.
