Event description

Sonya Rankine guides educators through this hands on workshop that focuses on using reclaimed 'ghost ropes' to create contemporary woven artworks, a technique that can be applied to any age range and skillset. In Sonya's individual practice, she uses ghost rope weaving to explore traditional Aboriginal art making techniques in a contemporary way. Sonya uses this hands on approach to demonstrate ways educators can teach students about First Nations art in a culturally safe environment. Sonya encourages students and educators to create their own unique artworks that are not appropriating or replicating First Nations culture, but are safely engaging in the ideas, stories, and techniques used.

A certificate of professional learning will be provided. This professional learning workshop will support you in demonstrating the following AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teacher: 2.4, 2.1, 2.2, 3.2
