Event description

Please ensure you preregister for Fashions on the Field to ensure a smoothly run fashions.

Ensure you have read all our criteria and rules before entering.

Autumn Fashion Criteria

  • Entrants must show sophistication and style
  • Ladies must be wearing a hat or head piece to be eligible for entry in Fashions on the Field.  Hats or head pieces must be appropriate for the Autumn season.
    • Not acceptable:  straw or sinamay. 
    • Acceptable:  leather, felt, velvet, thermoplastics, thick winter fabric. 
    • Tran-seasonal fabrics can be worn as long as it compliments the whole look.  Trans-seasonal fabrics are a thick fabric and a heavy-looking lace.  Note: it must compliment your autumn look.
    • Accessories are suggested to be matching or complimentary. Stockings and gloves are not compulsory however preferred for a polished autumn look.
    • Outfits must be appropriate for the occasion and season. Miniskirts and plunging necklines are not suitable for Fashions on the Field.
    • Shoulders should be covered however if weather permitting, shoulders can be shown but must then have sleeves to complete an autumn look.
    • Shoes should be covered or at least toes fully covered.  Therefore sling backs are acceptable.  Peep toe shoes are not looked upon favourably.
    • Gentlemen must wear jacket, trousers and tie.
    • For country meetings or a more “relaxed” fashion on the field, men can wear dress pants such as chinos and a sports jacket.
    • It is also a great asset to add complimentary accessories such as pocket handkerchief, a lovely lapel etc.
    • Hats for men are always an added part to an overall stylish look however not compulsory.
    • Always ensure your shoes have been polished.

    Rules

    • Finalists must be aged 18 years or over on the day of the races.  Proof of age must be presented at the time of registration if requested
    • If entering the Local Best Dressed category, you must currently reside within these postcodes:  2336, 2337 and 2338. 
    • Finalists must not receive any form of compensation from a third party for entering Fashions on the Field competition.
    • The accommodation prizes must be taken as specified - Conditions to accommodation apply and are subject to availability.
    • The Promoter is The Entertainment Grounds and Thoroughbred Events Australia.
    • The judges' decision is final.
    • No alteration to outfit between when chosen as a finalist and the announcement of winner.  An alteration will result in disqualification.
    • Prizes are non-transferable (unless agreed to by the sponsor), non-exchangeable and are not redeemable for cash. Prizes may be subject to additional Terms and Conditions.
    • Winners will be notified directly after judging and will be presented with their prize package.
    • All entries may be entered into a database for future promotional, marketing and publicity purposes unless noted to the contrary by the contestants lodged in writing.
    • Contestants agree that their image may be used by the host race club and sponsors for future marketing purposes.

    Timing & Categories

    • Please present yourself immediately after Race 3 for the following categories:
    1. Best Dressed Local
    2. Best Dressed Man
    3. Best Dressed Gatsby Theme (both men and woman will compete on stage together - prize for best of both)
    • Please present yourself immediately after Race 4 for the following categories:
    1. Best Dressed Lady (Under 40)
    2. Best Dressed Woman (40 & Over)

    Meeting Your Judges 

    • Kay Louise Jeffrey
      Kay Jeffrey is currently part of the Australian Equine and Events Centre Team in Tamworth the largest of its kind in Australia.
      Kay indeed has many hats - literally.
      Being born on the land and very proud of her upbringing, Kay has always been around horses. Her major contribution to racing was her role of General Manager at Tamworth Jockey Club - a role she definitely made her own.
      Kay was passionate about millinery too and took up millinery as a full time profession under the label KLJ Millinery in 2014.
      Kay has won many fashions on the field including Best Millinery at Scone Cup 2015, Runner Up Millinery Wyong Gold Cup 2015, Winner Best Dressed Wyong Gold Cup 2018.
      Kay is enjoying her time as a horse owner, wife and mother of 2 young girls who love their horses and compete in many events around Australia.
      As a judge we know that Kay has an incredible eye for style, creativity and craftmanship.
    • Deputy Lord Mayor Michelle Garrard
      Deputy Lord Mayor Michelle Garrard was elected to City of Parramatta Council in September 2017. Michelle has a long history of involvement in her local community, a previous Director on the Board of the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce since 2016-2018, where she participates in a wide range of volunteer and charity events.
      Michelle is passionate about the community. She believes local government must genuinely consult residents and listen to all its constituents and deliver services that help communities to thrive and prosper.
      Michelle has been around the racetrack and horses for years. Her family is heavily seeded in this world and Michelle has followed suit.
      You will see Michelle as acting Lord Mayor at many racing events as she is not only an advocate of racing but is a racehorse owner too.
    • Dee Price
      Dee Price needs no introduction to fashions on the field.  In fact, everyone who has ever entered would know here.  We are extremely proud to have Dee be one of our Judges for this year’s Scone Cup Fashions on the Field.  Let her wins tell her story
