Apologies: The event is starting at 12:00pm AEDT, not as previously advertised (13:00pm). One of our organisers got mixed up by time zones.

NITRO Oceania welcome you to join a fireside chat with Rosalie Chapple and Chels Marshall, on 29 Feb.

The event will provide a forum to debrief and digest the report launched on Feb 28th ‘Reimagining Conservation – Working Together for Healthy Country’. The report is ground-breaking regarding working together, across disciplines and cultures, on conservation. As such, it is an excellent example of transdisciplinary research.

Register for the webinar on the 28th about the report here https://utsmeet.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_QCJGwjt2QOeruVVcsdjKCQ#/registration

You will get the most benefit from this debrief conversation by reading the report and/or attending the webinar on Feb 28th.

In this conversation, we will explore the implications of the process and results of Rosalie’s project at each member’s institution, and explore what we can learn from each other to enable more inter- and transdisciplinary research across Oceania.

Rosalie is an ecologist with wide-ranging interests and a focus on protected areas and wildlife. She is inspired to work with Indigenous peoples in reimagining protected areas and other conservation measures, so they are more effective, inclusive and equitable. The conundrum of the overlapping boundaries between animals seen as pest, pet and wild, is an enduring part of her research, which has focused on many socially and politically contentious issues such as bushfires, feral animals, dingoes, wild horses and (currently) Indian street dogs.

Rosalie is a Senior Research Fellow in the TD School at the University of Technology Sydney; a co-founder of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Institute; worked for the past 5 years with the Protected Areas Collaboration; and taught for many years in the Master of Environmental Management program at the University of NSW Sydney. She lives on Gundungurra and Dharug country in the Blue Mountains outside Sydney.

Chels is First Nations (Australian) and passionate about recognition for First Nations Science, and is a Senior Research Fellow in the Indigenous Knowledge Systems lab at Deakin Uni. She will be joining us from Gumbaynggirr Jagun Country.
