Description

ReMade: Creative Eco-Craft Workshop - Make your own coil basket

Get creative, slow down and give discarded materials a second life.

Date: Saturday, 31 October 2026

When:  9:00am–12:30pm
Where: Pottsville Community Hall, 1 Tweed Coast Road, Pottsville NSW

Cost: $38/person

Join us for a hands-on ReMade Eco-Craft Workshop, where you’ll learn how to transform recycled and recovered materials — including fabric and fishing rope — into your own unique coiled basket to take home.

But ReMade is about more than learning a new craft.

Waste is one of the many pressures facing our oceans and marine wildlife. Lost and discarded fishing line, rope and other fishing gear can remain in the marine environment, where it can entangle whales, dolphins, turtles, seabirds and other marine life.

Through creative reuse, we'll explore how we can begin to see waste differently — not simply as something to throw away, but as a resource that can sometimes be recovered, reimagined and given a new purpose.

We’ll also slow things down and weave with intention. The repetitive process of coiling, wrapping and stitching creates space to pause and reflect on our relationship with the things we use, what we throw away, and the changes we can make to better care for our environment and ocean.

During the workshop, you’ll be guided through a simple reflective activity and invited to choose a personal intention for positive change. As you create your basket, you can weave that intention into your piece — turning the process of remaking discarded materials into a reminder of the change you would like to make.

No previous basket-making experience is needed. Our passionate and experience crafters Liz & Carol will guide you through the process step-by-step, and the emphasis is on creativity rather than perfection.

Come along, learn a new skill, connect with others and discover how something discarded can be reimagined, remade and given a new purpose.

What you'll learn

You'll learn how to prepare recycled materials and use simple coiling, wrapping and hand-stitching techniques to create a functional basket or bowl.

Along the way, we'll explore:

  • creative reuse and ways to give discarded materials a second life

  • the connection between waste, our waterways and ocean with Dr Liz Hawkins

  • simple coiling, wrapping and stitching techniques

  • slow, reflective making and weaving with intention

  • practical actions we can take to reduce waste and make positive change.
