Event description

South Asian Heritage Month is held annually (in other parts of the world) from July 18 to August 17 to honour, recognise, and appreciate South Asian history and culture, as well as understand the rich cultural legacy of countries and South Asia. It is a month-long celebration of the existence and legacy of individuals with origins in the South Asian countries of Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives.

In Aotearoa, New Zealand, we would like to mark this month with a discussion that explores the legacies and tragedy of Partition, which led to the creation of the independent states of India, Pakistan, and later Bangladesh.

We recognise that without also understanding and talking about our own histories and the stories that have been passed down to us, it's difficult to connect to the stories of colonisation here in Aotearoa.

We welcome all who are interested in this conversation to join us.

Our intergenerational panel will be announced soon.

We have limited space at this small venue, so registration is essential.

All proceeds will be donated to The Palestinian Children's Fund.

When:  August 3rd, 4 pm - 6 pm
Where:  Haven, 1855 Great North Road, Avondale, Auckland 1026
