Remembering WWII - 80 Years
Event description
This performance will celebrate Veterans - the brave men and women who have served our country. This is especially timely because 2025 marks the 80th-year anniversary of the end of World War II. This musical tribute will also celebrate the wonderful collaboration and vast talent in our valley as a joint endeavor between Walla Walla Choral Society (WWCS) and Walla Walla Valley Bands (WWVB). Both organizations are honored to come together, putting a spotlight on the music and “greatest generation” from this era.
Throughout the early 1940’s, music played a key role in the war effort. Families gathered around their radios for wartime updates and to enjoy music designed to boost morale and help them grapple with the complex and extraordinary feelings of loss. Songs ranged from patriotic to sentimental, toe-tapping to quietly nostalgic. Glen Miller, the leader of the Army Air Force Band, toured to bring hope and entertainment to exhausted soldiers and weary workers at home. Kate Smith, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters are just some of the amazing singers of the era. The lively Big Band, Swing, and Jazz music of the time brought a sense of hope and celebration then and will do so again in this performance. Memories will be brought back and made at this concert!
