Renée Spijker is a dreamy, ambient folk singer/songwriter from the Netherlands. Spijker grew up in a musical household, harbouring her passion for music. After graduating in anthropology she moved to Australia to focus on her music. With an ethereal sound, Spijker takes the listener on a unique journey of the emotional human experience. Renée is set to release her debut EP in 2023, collaborating with Tim Bettinson (Vancouver Sleep Clinic) and Luke Jenkins. Spijker's anticipated first release "Ruby" is due on the 3rd of March, sparking interest from fans of Daughter, Fink and RY X.
The afternoon will start with Meanjin’s one and only Leo Hooker. With his unique brand of smooth dark guitar-driven poetry, Leo delivers a high-energy indie-rock experience infused with blues and folk. Influenced by Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, Willie Nelson & Leadbelly, Leo Hooker brings rich, emotive vocal melodies set against an infectious rhythmic canvas.
