Birds and Bugs- Wetlands Wonders of Renmark’s Restored Floodplains

There is more to the Murray than what meets the eye.

Renmark’s hidden and forgotten floodplains are now bursting with life again, thanks to Renmark Irrigation Trust’s Water for the Environmental program. Join us during National Science Week for two hands-on, guided events to discover the native species that call these floodplains home.  

Sunday 10 August 9:00 am - 10:30 am

Grab a pair of Binoculars and let’s go for a stroll! A guided bird walk at a floodplain near Renmark town to look for native woodland and wetland birds

Saturday 16 August 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Get down on your hands and knees and see what’s hiding in the bushes: A workshop for collecting, identifying, and preserving insects to contribute to Renmark’s first floodplain invertebrate record

Led by RIT ecologist Freya Harrihill, these two events will provide you with insight into how native species are making a comeback in the floodplains. Come to one, or both, and leave with a sense of achievement in contributing to collection of real-world scientific data! Open to locals and visitors - no prior experience needed!

Please dress appropriately for the weather forecast on the day. Ensure you wear enclosed footwear and be prepared for possibly muddy conditions.
