Event description

We've become too accustomed to the throw-away lifestyle. If something breaks, we discard it and purchase a new one. This behavior is filling our landfills at an alarming rate. Electronic waste and textile are now some of the most significant sources of pollution. So why not learn how to fix things instead?!

Bring your broken, non-working items—electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, and more—for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We'll provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you take apart and troubleshoot your item. Even if we can't fix it, you'll learn more about how it was made and how it works.

This event is fun for the whole family, so bring your kids! We are expanding rapidly and will host events all over San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County.

Is this event held at the same location every time?

Repair Cafe SFV is a roving event hosted at different locations in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles County to provide more opportunities to the various community.

How can I get up-to-date information?

How is the parking?

Elks Lodge has a large parking lot behind the building. Enter through the gate on Commerce Ave, next to the building.

How many items can I bring to the event?

Please bring TWO ITEMS that need to be repaired, and keep in mind that we will try our best to solve the problem, but not every case is a success. Additional items brought in will be listed as a walk-in and serviced on a case-by-case basis.

Are reservations available for the event?

There are no reservations available for the event. However, pre-registration is welcomed here on Humanitix so we can be expecting the types of repairs coming in and be better prepared for the event.

I registered, but now I'm unsure if I can attend. What should I do?

If you are unsure whether you will attend, please cancel your registration at least three days before the event to allow additional people to reserve a spot. Or email us at repaircafesfv@gmail.com and let us know.

Too many no-shows attached to your email address will result in no more allowances to pre-register, and you must attend as a walk-in.

Please note: no-shows can cause a severe issue when planning future programs regarding venues, volunteers, and location. We know this is a free event, but please give us the common courtesy and let us know if you cannot attend.

Are the repairs guaranteed?

No warranties or guarantees are applicable to any of the services provided. As a matter of fact, sometimes additional damage could occur during the repair process. By you choosing to allow us to work on your item(s), you are agreeing that Repair Cafe San Fernando Valley and its volunteers will not be responsible for any damage that may occur.

Does this cost money?

This event is free to attend, but it is not a drop-off and fix event. Instead, it is a hands-on event where participants can learn how to repair their items with the help of our expert coaches.

What if my item needs a replacement part?

As this is a free event, we do not provide replacement parts. You will be responsible for any costs incurred if your item requires additional or replacement parts. We may have some spare parts on hand, but it is the attendee's responsibility to purchase and bring the necessary parts on the day of the event.

In other words, this is a free event, so you are responsible for your equipment and any repairs that may be needed. We may have spare parts, but you must bring them if required.

Will you accept walk-ins?

We will accept walk-ins if there is time, but it depends on how quickly we can repair the items of the registered attendees.

Do you take donations of tools and supplies?

Oh boy, do we. If you have any old tools you don’t need, please bring them to the next Repair Cafe SFV and/or email us at repaircafesfv@gmail.com to arrange drop-off locations.
