Repairing a Jacquard Loom, Ballarat Central

Ticketed Event (Online and In Person). The Jacquard Loom Network is hosting an In Conversation event on the practices of repair, maintenance, and community. Our speakers — key members of the Network — will discuss what it means to maintain 18th century logic and 20-year-old circuitry as an act of collective care: reconnecting people to production, cultivating respect for materials, and building a resilient knowledge network in the face of generational and industry contraction.

Audiences are invited into the conversation to explore how shared responsibility for a machine's "nervous system" reflects broader values embedded in textile and craft work.

This event marks a significant chapter in the Jacquard Journal, our ongoing record of the loom's restoration. We look forward to sharing this story — and its future — with the public.

We are hoping to raise donations towards the ongoing restoration work and equipment, tickets are at a sliding scale cost to allow all folks who can donate to do so or folks can’t afford a ticket to still access to the talk and community.
