Polystyrene Pollution in the Yarra River - The Way Out
Event description
You are warmly invited to join us for the online launch of the Yarra Riverkeeper Association’s new report and accompanying short film on one of the most persistent threats to the health of our river – expanded polystyrene (EPS) pollution.
This one-hour event will feature:
🎬 A screening of our new 6-minute video highlighting the issue and what can be done
📊 A short presentation by YRKA Project Officer Anthony Despotellis on the findings and recommendations of our new report
❓ A Q&A session moderated by April Seymour, EO of the Port Phillip EcoCentre
The research confirms that construction sites are a major source of EPS entering the Birrarung. Once in the river system, this lightweight material easily breaks into microplastics, polluting the water and harming wildlife. Without immediate and coordinated action, EPS pollution will continue to accumulate and compromise the health of the river for generations to come.
Please join us to learn more, ask questions, and be part of the conversation on restoring the health of our river.
