Repositioning the Industry in an Uncertain World Masterclass
Description
The Tasmanian community services industry is operating under compounding pressure, shaped by rising demand, constrained funding, shifting policy directions and a workforce running on empty. Leaders are being asked to advocate, adapt and hold the line, often all at once. This Masterclass explores how leaders can respond to complexity and uncertainty without becoming overwhelmed by it.
Drawing on adaptive leadership and Kym Goodes' deep experience in the industry, this Masterclass examines how narratives, advocacy approaches and power dynamics influence outcomes and how reframing them can position the industry more effectively. Rather than dwelling in crisis, the day focusses on possibility: helping leaders understand their own role in driving change and shift from reactive, closed-loop thinking to more strategic, future-focussed leadership.
What we will cover:
The current context — polycrisis, demand growth, federal reform pressures and their impact on Tasmania.
How narrative shapes policy, funding and public perception and how to use it more deliberately.
Closed-loop advocacy — why the industry gets stuck and how it limits impact.
Open-loop thinking — reframing influence, relationships and strategy for greater effect.
Shared value across government, the industry, community and business.
Leadership opportunities within constraint — where reform and new approaches become possible.
The role of emerging leaders in shaping the industry’s future.
By the end of this Masterclass, participants will:
Have a clearer understanding of the forces shaping the industry and your place within them.
Be able to identify closed-loop dynamics in your own context and understand why they limit impact.
Have practical strategies for shifting to more open-loop, influential approaches.
See more clearly where your leadership can drive change, even in constrained conditions.
Leave with greater clarity, purpose and strategic confidence for the road ahead.
