Reptile Awareness Animal Encounter (Ages 6 - 13yrs)

Discover the amazing world of Australia’s native snakes and lizards in this fun and interactive school holiday workshop with Critters Up Close! Participants will meet live reptiles, learn how to identify common local species, understand their behaviour and discover why they are important to our environment.

The experienced wildlife educators will also share practical tips on what to do if you encounter a reptile and how to stay safe around them. The workshop includes live reptile demonstrations, supervised interactions, fun activities, and a simple snake bite first aid demonstration.

Please note that this event is designed specifically for the age group 6 - 13. Please see below for information regarding expectations.

This is not a 'drop and leave' event. All people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a responsible parent/carer. Parents/carers are responsible for the safety and well-being of children at all times.

Animal interaction rules apply - This event includes animal interaction. For the safety of the animals, this event is unsuitable for children that cannot sit still when asked, cannot be quiet when asked or struggle to have calm hands. We respectfully request that caregivers intervene if necessary to ensure their child’s behaviour is not negatively impacting the well-being of animals or others.

This is a sitting event, quiet spaces will be available.

Please consider using public transportation. A bus stop, just a 2-minute walk away, is conveniently located near EcoHub and services multiple routes.

EcoHub is located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop in the Piney Lakes Reserve. To reach us, if heading westbound, take the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Hwy across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left. Please park in the signed public carpark.
