Res Artis Conference London – 2023

“Mind the Gap: Designing residencies for everyone”
6 – 9 September, 2023
Hosted by Acme, in partnership with University College London (UCL)

Join over 200 artists, arts residency providers and leading cultural mobility experts from around the globe at our first in-person Res Artis conference since the pandemic from 6-9 September 2023, hosted by Acme in partnership with University College London (UCL).

Mind the Gap: Designing residencies for everyone, will bring the international artist residency community together in the UK for the very first time, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Res Artis and 50 years of Acme. This year’s event will help chart a future for impactful residency opportunities, with a focus on optimism and practical working solutions for issues facing the sector.

Taking place in London with live-streamed sessions, we will explore our post-pandemic and increasingly fragmented world. The event will propose co-creation and collaboration as positive solutions to shared obstacles faced globally by residency providers and the artists they host.

Registration fee for Non-Res Artis Members: £350.00

Conference programme:

Every aspect of our conference, Mind the Gap: Designing residencies for everyone, is committed to the overarching themes of diversity, access and inclusion. The conference program seeks to dismantle hierarchies and provide fair access for all. As such, we conducted an open-call for speakers and received an overwhelming response. We are currently assessing more than 200 proposals, and confirming speakers accordingly.
Eschewing keynote presentation in favour of panel discussions, provocations and interactive workshops the conference will explore power and access, diversity, artist voices and partnership working across four days.

Acme considers the environmental impact of our activity, striving to minimise it in all aspects of its work. This includes: monitoring and reducing energy consumption; becoming more energy efficient; moving towards more renewable energy sources; and becoming more sustainable through recycling. These commitments are implemented over seven principal areas: office premises, systems, equipment and resources; staff; suppliers and external relationships; studio and work/live buildings; transport; working with artist tenants; and green purchasing.

Acme and Mama Shelter's dedication to lessening environmental impact aligns with Res Artis' work to ensure that the arts residency sector centers environmental sustainability. This year Res Artis is thrilled to partner with 15 other international cultural networks, to start our journey towards eco-certification through the SHIFT initiative.
