Event description

Ahead of two new albums set for release in 2025, Research Records is honoured to invite its next signing, the masterful Syrian musician Khaled Kurbeh to Melbourne / Naarm for his debut performance at the acoustically outstanding Norla Dome.

Kurbeh is a musician living in Berlin. He plays piano, makes sounds and channels them through muhawalฤt ู…ุญุงูˆู„ุงุช [attempts, variations]: an outlet of gestures and sonic footnotes (and visual, sometimes). He often collaborates with other artists and creates scores for moving encounters, moving elevators, moving furniture (theatre) and moving pictures (film).

His debut EP with oud player Raman Khalaf, Aphorisms (2017), was released on !K7 imprint Between Buttons, Berlin and his forthcoming album, Likulli Fadฤin Eqฤรฉh ู„ูƒู„ู‘ ูุถุงุกู ุฅูŠู‚ุงุนู‡  [to each space its own rhythm], is set for release next year on Research Records, Melbourne. He has performed and toured internationally at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Edinburgh; Mรผnchner Kammerspiele, Munich; New Diorama Theatre, London; Synergy World Theater Festival, Novi Sad; XJAZZ and Ableton Loop, Berlin.

In support, composer and musician Rafet will embark on whatโ€™s set to be a deep listening experience, digging into his music collection to share a range of sound worlds within the ambient realm + Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist Genevieve Fry & Naarm electronic and art music scene fixture Abby Sundborn will be performing a harp & cello set.

All profits will be donated to Akkar + North Lebanon funds for mutual relief.
