Hearing voices is one of the least understood conditions for mental health workers. The condition can be complex and affects individuals in a multitude of ways.

Although you may rarely work with people with this less common condition, knowing appropriate approaches is essential to supporting consumers who hear voices.

This online workshop is an introduction to the Hearing Voices Approach, a peer-led recovery model for people who hear voices, see and sense things around them that others do not.

This course is for people with direct experience of hearing voices and those who provide support, including family, friends, peer workers and clinicians. It is perfect for anyone new to the Hearing Voices Approach who wants tools to help alleviate the distress associated with voices.

You will cover topics including exploring the diversity of voices, strategies for responding to distress, changing the power imbalance and collaborative work in the mental health sector.

The training will be provided by Kellie Stastny, who brings insight from being a proud voice hearer with her own lived experience in navigating and recovering from the psychiatric system. She worked in a mental health team for 6.5 years and is in her final year of a double degree, Bachelor of Human Services and Masters of Social Work, at La Trobe University.
