A note on Meditation:

By now, most people know that regular mindfulness meditation is good for general wellbeing.

Maybe you’re interested but just haven’t been able to get started.

Sometimes we can over-complicate or mystify our idea of meditation and think that it’s ‘not for me’. Most people find meditation challenging when they begin. Most of us have busy minds. The practice is not about stopping our thoughts, but simply continuing to bring ourselves back to the object of focus.

In these sessions you will be introduced to the building blocks of your own practice, starting with awareness of breath and body scan meditation, and expanding into compassion-based practices for self and others.

Each sitting will be suitable for beginners looking to start meditating and those who might be more experienced and just want to enjoy the energy of a group practice environment.

Meet your teachers:

Michelle Mullins is a certified Hatha Yoga Instructor and has been in consistent regular practice for 20 years. After becoming a mother 17 years ago and battling with fatigue and injury, this led her to move from the more intense, fast paced, physical forms of yoga towards a more gentle, slow and supported practice, aimed at lengthening the body, connecting to the heart, higher self  and breath and  releasing  tension allowing your lifeforce to return with clarity and balance.

Ian Archer-Wright has worked in the public service for more than 20 years, and has experience in community development, project management, public policy, strategy, commissioning, grants management and managing teams.

His journey with mindfulness and meditation began when he was 14 years old. Sitting in a wingback chair one day, he closed his eyes, turned his attention to the weight of his limbs and body in the chair, and began to simply still himself.

Ian regularly returned to meditation practice, using it as a tool to help manage stress and anxiety, and started more formal courses in meditation, mindfulness, and Buddhism in the 1990s. Over many years, his meditation practice developed into a daily practice.

In 2023, Ian began a diploma-based program with Sydney’s Insight Meditation Institute, the Mindfulness & Compassion Teacher Training Program, based in the Insight tradition. The course has offered a broad program of study in meditation techniques and other compassionate practices at the heart of Buddhism.

He has also trained with Mindfulness Works and has led meditation classes at his local neighbourhood centre, enjoying giving back to his local community.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IAN WILL NOT BE ATTENDING CLASSES ON 23RD NOVEMBER AND 7TH DECEMBER.

Stand alone / drop in classes can be purchased for $30 each if preferred.
