Lower Constellation Restoration (Temporarily on Hiatus)
Description
We need your help in our Lower Constellation site within the Upper Newport Bay to restore native biodiversity in order to foster a safe and habitable environment for our many species. Volunteer activities are seasonal and may include the following:
Removing non-native plant species
Planting species native to California
Watering and habitat maintenance
Trash cleanup
No experience needed! NBC staff will be ready to teach you all about ecological restoration. All tools and supplies will be provided.
Minimum Age: 13 years old
Minors must have a legal guardian present at all times.
What to Wear/Bring
Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Hiking shoes or mud boots are recommended. (Mud boots can be provided by request.) Breathable long sleeves, pants, a hat, water bottle, and sunscreen are recommended.

- What should I bring?
Please come prepared with: - Closed-toe shoes - Outdoor work attire - Reusable water bottle - Sunscreen - Hat * To help prevent the potential spread of plant diseases or pests, please refrain from bringing personal gloves or tools.
- What should I expect during a volunteer shift?
Volunteers should be prepared for outdoor conditions. There is no shade on site and the work may be challenging so please work at your own pace. Tasks for the day vary depending on what needs to be done, including watering native plants, manually removing invasive plants, installing plants in the ground, and hauling dead vegetation off site.
- How do groups sign up to volunteer?
For group volunteer opportunities, please fill out the Group Request Form at https://forms.gle/Gi5H4cksU1GqsU2K7. This helps us coordinate schedules, activities, and staffing needs. Please note that group restoration events are limited during bird nesting season between March 1st - September 1st.
- Are there restrooms and parking available?
There are no restrooms available on site. Please prepare accordingly prior to the event. If needed restrooms can be found at the Peter and Mary Muth Interpretive Center https://maps.app.goo.gl/BJ2N2aqkBTsngpgu5
