REthink your kitchen
Event description
The REthink Nillumbik program is funded by Nillumbik Shire Council and supported by Edendale Community Environment Farm and NECAH (Nillumbik Environment and Climate Action Hub). The project will be delivered by Going Green Solutions and supports Council's climate action goal of net-zero community emissions by 2035.
REthink your kitchen
Home kitchens use huge amounts of resources and create millions of tonnes of waste.
In this session, we’ll look at how we use our kitchens, and how we can make them more sustainable. PLUS we'll teach you how to reduce waste and save money by making a range of kitchen products, including your own all-purpose cleaner, dry gravy mix, and no-sew bowl covers.
Topics include
- food and cooking
- appliances and equipment
- purchase choices
- packaging and waste
- systems, habits and routines
The benefits to you?
- Reduced environmental impact: Less waste means less pressure on landfills and natural resources
- Save money: Durable products, reduced food waste, and fewer single-use items translate to financial savings
- Empowerment: Be part of the solution by making conscious choices that benefit the planet.
This session provides a springboard for your circular-kitchen journey. Let's brainstorm some additional ideas and share tips to help each other create a more sustainable and resourceful space.
Who is it for?
The session is suited to anyone interested in reducing the amount of money, packaging, and resources they consume in the home. It’s also for those wanting to learn hands-on skills for making their own everyday food items and cleaning products.

About the REthink Nillumbik Project
The REthink Nillumbik Project is a series of fun, interactive workshops to create a more sustainable and liveable Nillumbik. Sessions include a range of activities to help local residents reimagine our collective approach to energy and waste.
REthink events are collaborative, hands-on, and can help people take small actions that can lead to serious, positive change. They include practical demonstrations, creative activities, and simple ideas for rethinking everyday choices and behaviours. We want you to leave each session feeling motivated and empowered to make change. By working together, we can create a more sustainable future for ourselves and generations to come!
