The second workshop will focus on organic waste; how organic waste systems operate across different regions, how to navigate the confusion around compostable packaging, food waste separation, and working with catering companies and food rescue organisations. It will include practical guidance you can apply to your own event, venue, vendors, suppliers, and operations.

Topics include:

• Why organics is valuable but misunderstood
  Difference between food waste, compostable packaging, and biodegradable materials.

• Organic waste diversion in different regions
  Why accepted materials differ depending on region, and what this means for event planning and packaging decisions.

• Challenges and realities of compostable packaging
  Operational struggles caused by lookalike products and inconsistent acceptance criteria.

• Common contaminants and how to avoid them
  Practical solutions including signage, bin monitoring, approved materials, and vendor education.

• Regional issues and next steps
  Key takeaways for improving separation and reducing contamination.

The workshop talk will run from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, with networking from 6pm to 6:30pm and more time to connect after the session till 8pm. Nibbles and drinks will be provided.

The talk will also be recorded for those who cannot attend the full session.
